[문화뉴스 MHN 아티에터 김두환] Today's INDIOCIAN's interview is Artist Eve Maret is anything but ordinary

Q01. INTRODUCE YOURSELF
Hi, I'm Eve and I'm a 25 year-old musician, visual artist, and poet. I'm also the co-founder of Hyasynth House, an electronic music collective for female, non-binary, and trans artists. I'm moving to Oakland, California from Nashville, Tennessee in a few weeks to go to Mills College to receive an MFA in Electronic Music.

Q02. WHAT DEFINES YOU AS AN ARTIST?
My soulful, experimental, and interdisciplinary approach to creating is what defines me as an artist. I am devoted to exploring art and life in all forms, and will push boundaries for as long as I'm on this planet.

Q03. WHAT WAS YOUR MOTIVATION TO BE AN ARTIST?
My motivation to be an artist is to know, heal, and love myself.

Q04. WHO ARE YOUR INSPIRATIONS? WHY?
I'm inspired not only by people, but also by my own feelings, life events, and the lives of those around me. My biggest inspiration is my dad. He passed away 3 years ago. He was my number one fan, and he taught me to pursue what makes me happy and fulfilled. Since he left, I've dedicated myself to... well, myself (and my creativity). Musically, I'm really inspired by Yellow Magic Orchestra, NEU!, and Pauline Anna Strom, to name a few. Each of these artists/groups make colorful, transcendent music that lets my imagination run wild.

Q05. WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU?
Music is the pulse of life. There's so much I experience that I don't have words to express with regular speech. Music is a pathway for me to communicate the vastness of my feelings - the tangible and intangible - and so to understand them. Music is my connection to others and to my spirituality. My spirituality is the wisdom of my inner voice, which is amplified and brought to life in song.

Q06. ARE YOU WORKING ON ANYTHING RIGHT NOW? IF SO, WHAT IS IT?
I just finished recording my next album! Aside from that, I'm spending a lot of time practicing and exploring new ideas for live performances I have coming up. It's so much fun! I'm also working on playing some international shows next year.

Q07. WHICH OF YOUR ORIGINAL SONGS DO YOU LOVE THE MOST? WHY?
I love "Sound Of Space Between" because it transports me to a very positive, expansive time in my life. "Sound Of Space Between" marked a new beginning for me (creatively, interpersonally), and I'll always look back on that time fondly. Plus, I really like how the song sounds.

Q08. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC PROCESS? DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL PERSON, PLACE OR THING THAT INSPIRES YOU?
My artistic process is an intuitive process. I like to create a comfortable and calming studio environment with colored lights and incense before I make something. It helps me to meditate before making music, too. I like to think of my dad and my other ancestors when I sit down to work on music.

Q09. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AS AN ARTIST?
My goals as an artist are to continually refine my voice, experiment with new technology and methods for creating and performing music, to learn from and collaborate with artists across disciplines, and to inspire change within the music industry so that it's healthier and more inclusive.

Q10. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO YOUR FANS?
I love you, I believe in you, and you can do anything if you love and believe in yourself!

Q11. IF YOU HAVE A CONCEPT, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT? (THINK CUTE, MYSTERIOUS, SEXY, ETC.)
I couldn't decide between "mesmerizing" and "alien," so I'll say both.

Q12. DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE MUSIC-RELATED MEMORY?
This is a tough question! I'd have to say one of my favorite music-related memories was when I saw MGMT perform in 2017. My partner had just broken up with me, and I made a spontaneous decision to drive to Memphis to see them play. It was a really uplifting and inspiring experience!

Q13. WHAT DO YOU HAVE ON SHUFFLE RIGHT NOW? ANYTHING TO RECOMMEND?
I can't stop listening to the song "Faces" by Clio! It's a groovy mid-80's track that is undeniably awesome.
